B.TH EXTERNAL STUDIES
Our external programme was initiated a decade ago under the title Paul’s
External Theological Education. It was renewed and revised from 1997
according to the higher ideals and standards of A.T.A so that through
these efforts many Christians will be discipled and made more effective
instruments in the hands of the Master. It is a three-year degree course
with English as the medium of instruction.
PURPOSE
The purpose, in offering B.Th external studies for the Indian Christians
who are basically involved in secular responsibilities and who are not
able to do their residential studies, is to prepare them to be more
efficient instruments of God in Christian mission and evangelism. Our
B.Th also serves as a firm basis to equip the students will qualified
for further studies like M.Min, M.Miss, etc.
OBJECTIVES
The Bachelor of Theology course is designed to meet the academic need of
the dedicated Christian candidates
to infuse firm foundation in Biblical teachings
to inculcate positive attitude towards the practical issues of the
society with a true Christian perspective
to awaken and edify the hidden skills in diverse fields of study
to expose them to various trends of Christian Mission and Evangelism
and
to coach them to defend their Christian commitment and take active part
in mobilizing the nationals for Christian ministry.

Examinations, Seminars, etc.,
Our three year B.Th., course consists of six semesters. There will be four papers in each semester and eight papers in each year. Students have to write their examinations at the end of each semester (November/April). However if they fail to write their first semester examinations, they can write the arrear papers when they write their second semester examinations. Examination dates will be announced accordingly. There will be a seminar on the subjects of the respective semesters, which will take place soon after their semester examinations. Once a candidate registers, he/she has to complete the B.Th., course requirements within five years. Students will be supplied with detailed notes of each paper, only after they remit the prescribed fees. They can avail the college library for their studies but they cannot check them out under any circumstances. However, they can have a xerox copy of the important books. A student has to obtain atleast 40% in each of the subjects. Each student would choose an area of interest upon which he/she concentrates more. These are the additional credit courses, which would be graded. In order have thorough guidelines all the students must attend the counselling seminar. This would be informed in due course.
Each semester we conduct a four-day contact seminar. Attendance is not compulsory. But the students who attend the seminar will be benefited as they listen to the class lectures given by the concerned lectures. Every student must write atleast one assignment for each subject, so that he or she may enter into the examination hall. However, students will not get any marks for the assignments.
I Semester contact seminar usually take place in last week of August every year.
I semester exams and II Semester contact seminar are likely to held one after the other in the second week of November every year.
I & II Semester exams are held in the last week of April every year. I Semester exams (Afternoon) II Semester exams (Morning).
III Semester contact seminar will immediately be followed by the April examinations
Only I, III & V Semester examinations are held together in the month of November every year.
II, IV &VI Semester examinations are held together in the morning session in the last week of April every year. I, III & V Semester examinations are held together in the afternoon session in the last week of April every year.
However, a special chance is given to attend the Retake Examinations for the students who miss or fail in the regular scheme of examinations. These examinations are held simultaneously along with I Semester contact seminar in last week of August every year.
Admission Requirements
Any Christian irrespective of denominations, religion, living in India, who has enough knowledge in English Language.
One has to complete 12th standard or its equivalent or 10th pass and two years of Christian training certificate with a good command in English.
A candidate has to prepare himself/herself to come and write examinations only in our college at the end of each semester or atleast once year.
Note: The final decision of admission is reserved with the advisory committee of the external study programme.
To develop Christian leadership for the different levels of the Chruch-at-large with a vision and with skills; to develop Christian thinking, mobilize the church in ministry, and complete the responsibility of making disciples of all peoples within the context of our nation.

To develop research skills that promotes a deeper understanding of Biblical truth of the Church, and its Mission within the various ministries in the Church.

To awaken the need for participation in missions with a focus on the unreached and unevangelized.
To inculcate a wholistic perspective of missions to integrate different methods in serving the whole man and his society.
Admission Requirements
University graduates with a second class, above 23 years of age, actively involved in some form of Christian ministry.
The candidate will have to pass an entrance examination in Advanced English and Bible.
The candidate will have to attend a personal interview with the Academic Committee.
The candidate will have to be recommended/sponsored by a church and/or Para Church Organisation.

Introduction
This newest branch of the Hindustan Bible Institute & College is the
Evening College, or the M.A in Biblical Studies program. Firmly rooted in
the belief that HBI stands for furthering the gospel of Christ, the
Hindustan Bible College branches out in yet another endeavor-MABS. The
primary goal of MABS is to “Impart the knowledge of
Truth” (1 Tim. 2:3-4).
Purpose
The purpose of MABS is to provide sound Biblical training to
professionals, Church leaders and those who are interested in the Word of
God. Since most of these professionals are working people, the program is
offered in the evening hours to facilitate their needs.
Descriptive Objectives of MABS
To give sound Biblical training to lay scholars and Christian workers.
To reach that group of people who work all day and have time only in the
evening to equip themselves.
To reach the working community that desire to equip themselves in the Word
of God.
To impart the knowledge of the Word of God (1 Tim. 2:3-4).
To equip the saints to do the work of an evangelist.
Finance
MABS is structured to provide sound Biblical training in an affordable
way. Therefore, a student is expected to pay Rs.800/- per semester. HBI
does not offer any scholarships or stipend work for the MABS students.
Timings
The evening classes are scheduled on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from
6:00PM till 8:45pm. Each day, the classes begin with a time of singing and
worship. Occasionally, a special seminar is scheduled to encourage
spiritual growth.

The purpose of M.Th. in New Testament is to train men and women in proper understanding of the New Testament. The Church, a concept of the New Testament, suffocates without proper understanding and application of the New Testament principles. A student must have sound exegetical skills to interpret the New Testament so that he/she can make it relevant for the society in which he/she lives. Thus, M.Th in New Testament aims to equip a student in proper exegetical skills to interpret the New Testament and thus flame the spirituality of the local church.
Objectives:
There are three objectives to M.Th in New Testament:
The first objective is to give ample training to the student in Koine Greek so that he/she may be confident in his/her handling of the Word of God.
The second objective is to give sound exegetical skills to the students so that he/she may properly interpret various passages of the New Testament.
The third objective is to give basic understanding of the theology of the New Testament so that He/she will be able to apply those principles in the local Church.
Duration:
M.Th in New Testament is a two year program. Courses are offered in modular fashion.
Entry Requirement:
An applicant should have second class M.Div or its equivalent degree from an accredited institution. He/she must also have preliminary knowledge of Koine Greek. He/she must be proficient in English and willing to dedicate long hours to sound theological training and research.

Subjects : There are two basic required courses; three inter-disciplinary; two language courses; two exegetical courses; and four biblical theological courses. There are a total of 36 credit hours. This will be combined with 14 hours of thesis research credit hours, totally 50 credit hours.

Research - Thesis
The courses will be taught, as far as possible, in order set above.
Thesis: A student is required to write a well-researched and well-documented thesis of 25,000 – 30,000 words. He/she is to have the topic approved by the end of the first year. By the middle of the second year, he/she should have enough basic research done on that topic approved by the Dean of the program. At that time, a faculty will be assigned to guide the student through the research and writing process. The last half of the second year is completely dedicated to the thesis. A student is expected to put 40-60 hours a week on research and writing the thesis.
Graduation:
A student requires three qualifications to graduate with M.Th in New Testament. They are:
Approved Character: Letters of recommendation from the local pastor, Dean of students and supervising faculty are required to be submitted to the Dean of the program before the end of the second year for the student to graduate.
Excellence in Education: The student must maintain an A-average (or above 70%) in all the subjects taught in order to qualify for graduation.
Quality of the Thesis: The student’s thesis must not only meet the established requirements (such as page limit, maintaining dead lines) but also be well researched and well documented. The English should be exemplary, without grammatical and spelling errors. No forms of plagiarism will be tolerated.
Faculty:
Dr. Andrew B. Spurgeon will head the discipline. Courses will be modular. Visiting faculty from India and abroad will be a part of it.
To Prepare trainers of Cross Cultural missionaries with a view to empowering labourers among the unreached peoples.
Course Objectives
For learners to be equipped with knowledge of the foundational subjects necessary to train cross cultural missionaries for field service
For learners to grasp the vision for harvesting among the unreached and the burden of multiplying that vision among potential missionary trainers.
For the learners to have a plan to use their knowledge and research to be strategically invested in preparing harvesters to reach the unreached.
Philosophy
Attention will be given to the interaction of anthropology, theology, and church history in the context, of practical cross cultural missionary ministry. The course will seek to produce scholar – practitioners who see their future in serving the mission of the church among the unreached.

The cost of the Program is Rs.20,000 scholarships may be available for the deserving candidates who apply early.
Perspective
Get serious about reaching the unreached by preparing yourself to be a qualified trainer of cross–cultural evangelists and church planters at Hindustan Bible Institute and College. This program of study will prepare teachers of missions and trainers of Missionaries. Schedule
This two-year course will run on a modular basis beginning in July and continuing until April. Normally be completed before the end of the second year.
