REHABILITATION
TEMPORARY SHELTERS - THE NEED OF THE HOUR
Even as we met with and talked to these folks, we realized that many of them had lost their homes in the Tsunami and had no place to live in. As it became clear to us that they
needed a roof over their heads, we designed a tent that was 21'x21' (about 150 square feet),
which they could use temporarily until a permanent solution could evolve. The Lord enabled us to put up
1,000 tents in 9 villages and even managed to put up 100 tents in Sri Lanka which was also equally devastated. Most of the areas of our operation were non-Christian and had earlier been rather vocal in their stand against Christians and Christianity. We praise God that they see us in a new light now and are able to know we truly care for them.
Apart from this, we conducted medical camps. At the various medical camps, we found that many people were anemic, had ulcers, eye infections and scabies. In all, we were able to provide
medical assistance to more than 10,000 people, gave vitamins to more than 10,000,
trained about 15 health workers, provided 200 pairs of glasses to those who lost them in the Tsunami and needed spectacles, and even paid 50% of the cost of surgeries and CAT scans for two people.
Praise the Lord! We also conducted a special eye camp and
helped over 250 people in checking their eyes, distributing medicines and providing glasses.
